01 / THE REASON

I Joined For Them

I met my wife when we were still kids trying to figure life out. We started dating on March 2, 2003, and six months later, on September 2, 2003, we were married. I was 19. She was 18. She had a 1 1/2 year old little boy named Korbin, and I fell in love with him right along with his mother.

The military was not something I wanted. I had almost joined once before and backed out because I knew I did not want that life. But when my wife became pregnant with my son Zane, I looked around at the trailer we were living in, the small town we grew up in, the jobs we were working, and I knew something had to change. That season was not glamorous. It was determination. I wanted to give my family more than what I had.
